The path out of poverty begins with clean water and sanitation. WaterAid is an international non governmental organisation dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education to the world's poorest people. We work in 17 countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific region. To date we have helped over 9.5 million people gain access to clean, safe water.
For over a billion people around the world, the chance to have clean, safe water is at the very top of their wish list.
Nearly 5000 children will die from water-related diseases in the developing world on Christmas day alone.

Stella lives with her three young children in Jeremiah, a village in Zambia. Many years of drought has meant that the water table has dropped drastically. The old handpump has now become unreliable, leaving most of the community without access to safe, clean water. Their situation is worsened by a lack of latrines meaning people have no choice but to go to the toilet in the surrounding bush.

The villagers have to resort to drawing water from a hand-dug unprotected water hole, which is contaminated with animal waste. The water is filthy and the villagers know that it is the cause of their poor health.

Stella says:“This water is very bad. We get ill all the time from it. I worry so much about giving it to my children to drink. I only give it to Joseph (the youngest of three) twice a day as I am afraid if I give him too much water from here then he will get sick and die.”

Will you give your support today? This will allow us to keep working with local organisations in Zambia to deepen boreholes and rehabilitate handpumps, helping people like Stella reach the clean water they need.

In the past 25 years WaterAid has helped to reach over 9.5 million people with safe water. With your support this Christmas, we will be able to help many more people in villages like Jeremiah set up their own safe, reliable drinking water supplies.

Today you can help make wishes come true for people like Stella and her family. £2 a month will help to provide safe, clean water for life that will ensure they have a healthier and happier future.
