The Medical Foundation for the care of victims of torture, is a UK based charity founded in 1985 to provide care and rehabilitation to survivors of torture and other forms of organised violence. They treat and help over 4000 survivors of torture every year. They offer services that are unique to the UK, but for them to continue their great work they rely heavily on the generosity of supporters :
- donate from as little as £3.00 to help fund this vital and life changing work
- over 80% of every pound donated goes directly into the care and treatment of those who have experienced horrific mental and physical torture
The Medical Foundation work with men, women and children from over 90 countries who face issues such as the severe stress associated with losing a family, friends, home, job, culture and identity, and the fear of being returned to face further persecution. The startling fact is three thousand unaccompanied children come to the UK every year. Of these many have witnessed atrocities against family members or even been tortured themselves and have to deal with the emotional after-effects in the harsh context of exile. Trained Medical Foundation professionals provide therapeutic treatment and emotional support.
