About The Royal British Legion
The Royal British Legion was founded in 1921 for the assistance of ex-Service community. With currently over 380,000 members, the Legion ensures that people remember those who have given their lives for the national freedom we all take for granted today.
On 6 June 1944, millions of servicemen lost their lives at the D-Day landings which took place on the beaches of Normandy. Since that day, the poppy has become the symbol of Remembrance and is worn during the weeks leading up to and during Remembrance Sunday. Though the needs of ex-Service people have changed over the years, the Royal British Legion are still here to safeguard their welfare, interests and memory.
The Legion now has a Single Membership, which gives all members equal rights to participate in the decision making processes of the organisation throughtout the country. The only people who can benefit from funds raised by The Legion remain the Service and ex-Service community who are most in need.
