The Centrepoint charity is asking for your help as they attempt to rebuild one of their most used hostels. The Ealing branch is now in a state of disrepair and in need of a huge makeover to rebuild the hostel and continue to help young people’s lives.

Centrepoint is looking to raise just over half a million pounds to make a full repair of the Ealing hostel, which is a huge focal point of local vulnerable people who need a safe place to stay when their options are few.

Service Manger of the Ealing hostel, Dione John-Baptiste, said -

We’re incredibly proud of all the young people we’ve helped over the years to find jobs, places in education and homes of their own. But as more and more come through, it’s increasingly difficult to provide a positive space they can respect as their own. To become independent young people need a place they can feel at home – not part of an institution. Please help us make these vital repairs. Every penny will bring us closer to ensuring the Ealing hostel continues helping young people long into the future.

The Ealing hostel is home to up to 18 young people at a time, but has become run down and is in need of structural repairs throughout the building. Let’s hope everyone can pull together to help provide young people with a safe place stay, alongside access to education, employment and to move on to independent living.

WSPA charity officials are disappointed that a sub-committee of the Mexico City Assembly has not pushed through their proposed anti bullfighting legislation, claiming that it is ‘not a priority’. It appeared on first glance that Mexico City was to follow in the footsteps Europe and Latin America to ban bullfighting, but there appears to be no rush to put the ban into place.

Alejandra Barrales, President of the Government Commission, has now seen the assembly fail to accept within the proposed deadline, which comes as a major disappointment to those that want to end this cruel sport. WSPA will continue to work closely with local organisations and it’s citizens to continue to put pressure on the authorities to end this cruel spectacle once and for all.

Programs Manager of WSPA in Central America, Marcela Vargas, said -

WSPA is deeply disappointed in the Mexico City Assembly’s decision to ignore civil society’s will to end an activity that causes unnecessary pain and death to thousands of bulls and horses across the globe. By preventing their society from progressing to a modern culture, free from cruelty, they are supporting an ever dwindling group of supporters at the cost of their international reputation.

The Mexico City Assembly will have another chance to amend this law again in September 2012, let’s hope they make it a priority this time before more animals are unnecessarily killed for ‘sport’.

NSPCC charity officials were over the moon with the news that the recent 2012 White Hat Ball raised a whopping £115,000 for ChildLine. No in it’s 7th year, the ball was held in London at the Lancaster London hotel for 640 guests. Whilst enjoying a 3 course meal and champagne reception, the guests were given the chance to bid on some really unique items, including a signed Salvador Dali engraving and a one off lunch at the top of the BT Tower.

The event was hosted by The Bill acoter by actor Graham Cole, with this year’s total dwarfing the £87,000 raised at the 2011 soiree. White Hat Events came together to help raise money to support charities like ChildLine, with their name derived from the white hats that the good cowboy wore in western films.

Chairman of the White Hat Events Committee, David Morgan, said -

It’s fantastic to see that the White Hat Ball continues to defy the financial climate and was able to raise more for ChildLine this year than ever before. The Ball has become a real fixture on the fundraising calendar and we’re delighted to support ChildLine’s hugely important work a result. Many thanks as well to everyone who generously supported the event, be it our sponsors, prize donors or our guests. It is wonderful to see how many people want to help to make a positive difference to the lives of young people in need.

ChildLine presented with the White Hat event team with a unique painting to thank them for all their fantastic work for the NSPCC over the years. Long may it continue if these are the kind of sums they raise, not bad for a nights work I’m sure you’ll agree!

AS ONE is a 24-hour live music and performance festival event organised by the YMCA charity. Held in Coventry over 25-27th May 2012, everyone is invited, with young people under 14 welcome if they attend with an adult.

There will be performances throughout the day by YMCA bands, then in the evening a camp fire alongside activities and sports. Alastair Stewart OBE recently visited Srebrenica in Bosnia to see how the Lend With Care micro loans are working for the local people. The town saw the massacre of more than 8,000 men and boys by units of the Army of Republika Srpska during the Bosnian War in July 1995.

The mass slaughter was described by the Secretary-General of the United Nations as the worst crime on European soil since the Second World War.

Theodor Meron, the presiding judge of the Appeals Chamber, said -

By seeking to eliminate a part of the Bosnian Muslims, the Bosnian Serb forces committed genocide. They targeted for extinction the 40,000 Bosnian Muslims living in Srebrenica, a group which was emblematic of the Bosnian Muslims in general. They stripped all the male Muslim prisoners, military and civilian, elderly and young, of their personal belongings and identification, and deliberately and methodically killed them solely on the basis of their identity.

Check out this video from the WSPA charity, which shows cows literally dancing with joy to be let out into the fields after a long winter inside. They’re calling it the ‘Cow Dance’ and it’s amazing to see the spring in their step as they get back outside together in the fresh air, and of course, amongst the delicious grass!

Cows naturally graze and suffer from less health problems on pasture, so farmers can measure the profit from robust cows that are healthier and live longer. Yet the number of cows released into the fields is in decline as factory farming increases. Up to a third of Danish cows are now permanently housed indoors, and this trend needs to stop.
