Nov 18 2008

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is trying to raise £50 million to help refurbish, buy vital equipment and fund pioneering research. Their latest state of the art, high tech wing to be unveiled is the ‘Flow, Cytometry and Cell Sorting Facility’ which allows different cell types to be distinguished from one another.

This facility is crucial to work conducted at GOSH and the UCL Institute of Child Health (ICH), as many key research projects depend on being able to recognise and separate specific types of cells.  The machines work by shining laser lights on individual cells, looking at the colours produced to differentiate them.

This fantastic new facility will play a central role in a number of clinical and basic research projects, ranging from childhood Cancers and Leukaemia’s to stem cell transplants and pioneering gene therapy. Now 11 key clinical and research areas will benefit from having access to this facility.

With your help we provide world class care to our very ill children and their families.
