Halima SalimWith nearly 30,000 people dying every day from hunger and AIDS related illnesses, Concern Worldwide are looking to put into place effective interventions as both hunger and HIV are very preventable. Concern have been working to combat the spread of HIV and AIDS for over 20 years, and now run 24 HIV and AIDS programmes in 15 countries across the globe.

By purchasing a virtual charity gift from the Concern Gift range this Christmas, you will be helping to provide funds to continue the fight against hunger and AIDS across the world. There is an extensive range of ethical gifts to choose from to suit all tastes and budgets, and include -

Halima Salim lives in the Masasi district in Mtwara region, Tanzania. When diagnosed as being HIV positive, she was still tragically mourning the death of her husband and her baby twins. Thanks to the work of Concern and other NGOs, anti-retroviral (ARV) medication is available in Halima’s village and her health has improved because of them. Like so many others living with HIV, however, Halima is also suffering because of food shortages.

Halima said -

After taking these medicines, you need to eat a lot, and I don’t have money to buy food. Today, I worked at the mashamba [farm] for the whole day without eating anything. My children are suffering a lot.

Sadly there is nothing extraordinary about Halima’s situation. Many people living with HIV just don’t have enough to eat. And tragically in many countries, the poorest families are being forced to choose between food for the household and ARVs for loved ones.

By purchasing a virtual gift from Concern Worldwide, you can be sure that the funds you donate will translate into real and lasting support for the world’s poorest people.
