The Fred Hollows Foundation are are an international development organisation, focussing on blindness prevention and Australian Indigenous health. They are independent, non-profit, politically unaligned and secular. It is a fact that over 40 million blind people in the developing world face uncertainity. The tragedy is with treatment 3 in 4 of those suffering can be cured.

The Fred Hollows Foundation Case Study
Lmesinae is 12 year-old boy living in Kenya. He had grown blind since early childhood. Lmesinae had cataracts, a cloudiness that occurs in the lens of the eye. Cataracts are treatable but this depends on access to trained doctors and facilities. Fortunately, Lmesinae was able to receive treatment from a Fred Hollows supported Eye Unit. With his sight restored he now has a real chance at life.

About the Fred Hollows Foundation
The Fred Hollows Foundation was set up in honour of the work of the late Professor Fred Hollows (1929-1993). Fred was an eye doctor, a skilled surgeon of international renown and a social justice activist who championed the right of all people to high quality and affordable eye care and to good health. The Foundation's work has gone from strength to strength in countries throughout Africa, Asia (South and South East) and Australia, focusing on blindness prevention and Australian Indigenous health.
In 2007, with the help of their supporters, The Foundation carried out an amazing 143,759 cataract operations and other sight saving interventions. Over 1.2 million people were examined during the course of the year, providing essential eye care to some of the world's poorest regions.
